Blue Box has added several new storage, database and networking updates to its OpenStack-powered private cloud solution.

Announced on Wednesday at the OpenStack Summit in Paris, the new enhancements were made to Blue Box Cloud, the San Francisco-based company’s managed, hosted private cloud product. According to the company, customers have been asking for these updates.

“Customers like the convenience and agility of public cloud, but for many applications, it’s just not practical,” said Ken Cavallon vice president of strategic business development and alliances at Blue Box. “The performance can be unpredictable, and the physical location of resources is often times a non-starter. Plus, budgeting for public cloud can be very hard to predict.”

He continued: “So, they want a private cloud option that they can consume in a model similar to a public cloud, because they don’t want to have to touch the infrastructure layer. That’s what Blue Box Cloud delivers, and now it delivers with new features customers have been asking for.”

Blue Box now offers full commercial availability for five major enhancements:

Cavallon said the new capabilities “expand the market aperture for our channel partners. Essentially, it gives them a larger total addressable market than they had access to previously.”

“Now, if they have customers who need dedicated object storage or dedicated block storage with Adaptive Flash, they have a product ready to sell,” he said. “Plus, that product, Blue Box Cloud, is powered by OpenStack and is delivered as a private cloud as a service offering. It’s already in production for customers in multiple vertical markets, so our channel partner are confident they can sell it and make their customers happy.”

He added: “Also, it means that customers who need OpenStack Trove DBaaS can deploy immediately and move to production as soon as they’re ready. Finally, our channel partners with customers that need more sophisticated networking capabilities like dedicated firewall and virtual networking have an answer in Blue Box Cloud.”
