IT solutions distributor Avnet Technology Solutions (AVT) has announced two converged infrastructure solutions that feature EMC Corp.‘s (EMC’s) VNXe3200 unified storage platform and ScaleIO architecture. Avnet said the new converged infrastructure solutions, Avnet A30 Series and Avnet A20 Series, will provide its small business and remote office/branch office (ROBO) customers with remote and virtual data access through private clouds.

“The adaptability and efficiency of private clouds make them ideal for small businesses, remote offices and branch offices; however, these solutions are typically designed for companies with hundreds or thousands of employees,” Greg Peterson, Avnet’s vice president and general manager for its EMC solutions group, said in a prepared statement. “Avnet and EMC collaborated to create converged infrastructure solutions tailored to the unique needs of the small business market that leverage EMC’s latest software and architecture and create a path to private clouds.”

Both of Avnet’s converged infrastructure solutions are built on EMC’s VSPEX for Private Cloud architecture, the company said. In addition, Peterson said these solutions could provide Avnet partners with flexible, scalable information infrastructures.

Avnet points out the Avnet A30 Series serves businesses and offices with roughly 50 users and includes EMC Data Domain DD2200 and VNXe3200 for data integrity and storage protection. The Avnet A20 Series, on the other hand, was created for businesses and offices with approximately 25 users and features ScaleIO, a software-only solution that allows IT administrators to add, move or remove servers.

Jeff Boudreau, EMC’s senior vice president and general manager of its enterprise and midrange systems division, said both of these solutions could make private cloud computing more affordable for small businesses.

“Avnet complemented EMC’s strategy to have channel-ready solutions available following the launch of our VNXe3200 storage platform and EMC ScaleIO architecture, and together, we will help our partners solve the technology challenges of small businesses and remote and branch offices,” Boudreau said in a prepared statement.

Avnet also has launched a transformation-as-a-service (TaaS) initiative to support its partners. The company said this initiative could help its partners “reduce the time to deployment … and provide them with tested, validated and fully-documented converged infrastructure solutions.”
