ViaWest Opens Las Vegas Data Center

ViaWest has announced the official opening of its Lone Mountain data center facility in North Las Vegas, Nev.

The cloud computing and managed services provider is celebrating what it says is the colocation industry’s first-ever North American Tier IV Design Certification and will host an open house on Feb. 28 to mark the grand opening of the facility.

We are excited to open such an amazing facility,” said Michael Vignato, ViaWest regional vice president and general manager, Nevada/Southern California. Las Vegas is an excellent location, with low risk for natural disaster and an arid climate that contributes to this facility reaching an expected Power Use Effectiveness (PUE) rating of 1.2 one of the lowest in the industry. Many of our customers now ask specifically to be part of Lone Mountain, wanting to take advantage of the availability and sustainability that it offers. We welcome our new customers as we continue to grow Lone Mountains reach.”

ViaWest first announced the Lone Mountain facility in the second half of 2012, and in October of 2012 the facility earned the Uptime Institute’s Tier IV design certification. The designation certifies that, when built to design specifications, the Lone Mountain facility is completely fault-tolerant and capable of withstanding an unplanned event such as a fire or power failure without any impact to IT equipment, the company said.

Since the facility’s launch in December, a variety of anchor customers have incorporated Lone Mountain into their data management plans.

We have worked with ViaWest in Utah for many years and are excited to expand into the new Lone Mountain location,” said Sjon Benson, vice president of information technologies at Progrexion. Our business has grown tremendously over the past decade, and ViaWest has been a true partner in our growth. Their team is technically excellent and has collaborated with us in our planning to ensure that we have a solid platform for growth.”

The Lone Mountain data center will also be Energy Star and Green Globe certified. It is a 110,000 square foot-facility, which will offer 74,000 square feet of raised floor space upon completion of final build-out.
