The show was a mix of content for partners and customers alike.

Nextiva is working to set itself apart in the unified communications market.

The company invited partners and customers to its annual NextCon conference in Scottsdale, Arizona, Oct. 23-25. Nextiva used the conference to introduce its new communications platform and exhort its partners to build better customer experiences. The channel “State of the Union” address showed just how much of an impact Nextiva’s partners have had on its overall growth.

Several business and marketing experts spoke at NextCon. We attended the first two days and snapped some pictures. We also have recaps of Day One and Day Two.

Day One

The Nextiva band, consisting of employees from the company, opened up Monday morning of the NextCon conference. Nextiva hosted the event for customers, partners and entrepreneurs at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Ira Feuerstein

Nextiva Channel Chief Ira Feuerstein greeted partners and customers on Monday. Feuerstein introduced the theme of the conference, "amazing service" and explained how customer service can make or break the success of your business. He shared his horror story of an airline flight he booked for his family to go to Iceland. It suffices to say that he won't be using that airline again.

The main event of the conference was Nextiva CEO Gorny announcing the launch of NextOS, the company's new communications platform. Select businesses now are using the platform, which Nextiva has been developing over the last several years with the intention of unifying the various business applications within a workplace.

Erika Frantzve

Erika Frantzve served as one of the event's emcees. She won Miss Arizona in 2012 and runs a nonprofit organization.

Carol Roth

Carol Roth, media personality and former investment banker, spoke about creating a positive customer experience. She critiqued customer loyalty programs, which are a traditional method for companies that want to build customer loyalty. While customer loyalty programs aren't necessarily bad, they can send the wrong message.

"You don't want to create loyalty to a program," she said. "You want to create loyalty to the experiences you create."

Talking Stick

Cisco was on hand during the event as an exhibitor and a sponsor. The company was one of the three main sponsors, alongside Panasonic and Polycom. Cisco recently turned heads by announcing the acquisition of BroadSoft.

Partner Certifications

Nextiva offered partners a chance to train and earn specializations in multiple categories. Call flow builder, analytics report building, analytics dashboard and gamification, and the Nextiva Apps were all topics for training.

The Arizona sky was clear and sunny all week long. The conference was held inside the Talking Stick Resort, but attendees went outside in between sessions to catch the warmth.

Channel Team

Feuerstein used his "State of the Union" channel partner address to bring his recently expanded channel team on stage. Nextiva says it has doubled its channel investment and increased partner revenue by 100 percent year-over-year.

Xbert

Xbert, the company's mascot and self-styled "amazing service guru," was on hand to greet attendees. Xbert is a fixture at Nextiva's conferences and has attended several of our trade shows.

Eric Siu (left) and Neil Patel (right) answered questions from the audience about how marketing has changed in the digital age. Patel and Siu host the Marketing School podcast.
