  • Image Gallery: VMware VMworld Highlights

    Las Vegas replaced San Francisco as the host of this year’s VMware VMworld U.S. Conference, Aug. 29-Sept. 1.

    The virtualization giant’s executives outlined new products and services and highlighted top customers and partners. Hundreds of companies showcased their portfolios in the Solutions Exchange expo hall.

    Among the highlights in our image gallery are keynote sessions and a very active expo hall.

  • VMware VMworld: Registration, Partner Exchange

    Registration began on Sunday, the day before the official start of VMworld. Many members of the channel community showed up on Sunday for VMware’s Partner Exchange events, which previewed the show’s upcoming announcements. Ross Brown, VMware’s senior vice president of worldwide partners and alliances, said later in the week that partners need to be educating themselves on public cloud.

  • VMware VMworld: Pre-Keynote Breakfast

    A massive crowd of attendees gathered for breakfast Monday morning next to the expo hall. The conference had to use several overflow rooms to seat everyone for the keynote session.

  • VMware VMworld: CEO Pat Gelsinger

    VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger ran the general session on Day 1. His big announcement: VMware wants to help customers automate, monitor and secure three major public cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services and IBM Cloud) using what it calls Cross-Cloud Architecture. It’s a major shift for VMware, which formerly competed directly against those clouds.

  • VMware VMworld: IBM Partnership and the Cloud Foundation

    Another major announcement coming out of VMworld was IBM’s extended partnership with VMware to help deliver the newly announced VMware Cloud Foundation. Robert Leblanc, senior vice president of IBM Cloud, joined Gelsinger on the stage to discuss the opportunity.

  • VMware VMworld: Dell’s EMC Acquisition

    There was much conversation around Dell’s acquisition of EMC (VMware’s majority owner), which will officially close on Sept. 7. Dell CEO Michael Dell talked on stage with Gelsinger about the future.

  • VMware VMworld: Tegile

    The expo hall was rocking and rolling Monday afternoon. Tegile, the flash storage provider, pulled out all the stops at its booth, bringing in an Audi sports car and a classic Vegas pastime.
