HPE Discover 2018 had something for everyone. Two events – HPE Global Partner Summit (GPE) 2018 and CIO Summit 2018 – were collocated June 19-21, in Las Vegas.
GPS 2018 attracted more than 2,000 partners who came here to hear about HPE products and the company’s vision, and where their business fits in. Conference attendees learned about new GreenLake Flex Capacity offers and Pointnext initiatives, as well as the technical highlights featured on HPE’s road map, such as the intelligent edge; data and analytics; data center and storage; memory-driven computing; hybrid IT; and blockchain.
There was the Transformation Zone, and more than four dozen HPE sponsors on the exhibition floor, in addition to training areas and demos.

Paul Hunter, HPE global channel chief, opened the HPE GPS, addressing the full scope of HPE's partner ecosystem including solution providers, system integrators, ISVs, OEMs and distributors. He said that that HPE's goal is to make the company the best for partners to work with.
"To be the best vendor to grow with and to give you the opportunity to place your trust in us," Hunter said.
He also told attendees that over 70 percent of what the company makes is sold through its partner community.
"The channel is the fastest growing route to market for our business," he said.
The intelligent edge was one of the hottest topics at HPE Discover. Tom Bradicich, vice president and general manager, IoT and converged edge systems, says to think of the intelligent edge as a place — a place where the action is.
The 3 "Cs" of the intelligent edge include connect, compute and control.
Smart cities promise to save costs and improve the quality of life for citizens. The use of IoT devices for connected sensors, lights and meters will improve infrastructure, public utilities and services, and are starting to be implemented in locations across the country.
When HPE last year put all of its services organizations under one umbrella, the company called it Pointnext. Pointnext services fall into three buckets: advisory, professional and operational.
Services such as Proactive Care Services, Datacenter Care Services, and now, Greenlake Flex Capacity for partners, all fall under operational services, which make up the lion's share ($7 billion of the $8 billion) of Pointnext services sold, according to the company.
The memory-driven computing innovation wall highlights the building blocks to advanced computing or, as HPE touts, a new kind of computer designed for the big-data era.
Microsoft Azure IoT Edge is a managed service that delivers cloud intelligence locally by deploying and running AI, Azure services and custom logic directly on cross-platform IoT devices.
One display in the vendor's booth showed video analytics on the Azure IoT Edge. The demo uses the HPE Edgeline 1000 for secure edge computing.
Veeam was selected as the 2018 Technology Partner of the Year – Data and Analytics Solutions, at HPE Discover 2018 in Las Vegas.
In 2016, HPE joined other industry leaders in founding the Gen-Z consortium in an effort to develop a new universal interconnect that would enable simpler and more powerful computer architectures.
An HPE supercomputer was aboard the SpaceX CRS-12 rocket, developed by Elon Musk's SpaceX, when it launched last year.
The Living Labs at HPE Discover showcase key products and solutions such as HPE OneSphere and HPE SimpliVity powered by Intel, HPE OneView, HPE 3PAR StoreServ, HPE Nimble, and HPE Active Health Viewing System.
