CompTIA ChannelCon 2017

Image Gallery: CompTIA ChannelCon 2017 Featuring SaaSMax, PlanetOne, Intermedia

  • Written by Craig Galbraith
  • August 9, 2017
Our image gallery features partners, supplier reps and CompTIA brass.

Another CompTIA ChannelCon is in the books, and what a gathering it was.

The event, held July 31-Aug. 2, in Austin, Texas, brought together partners from around the country to meet with more than 150 suppliers, get industry training and take advantage of excellent networking opportunities. With the theme “Be the Change,” solution providers left ChannelCon with ideas and tools to grow their businesses.

BMC's Kevin Orr

CEO Todd Thibodeaux

In a call to action during his state of the industry presentation, CompTIA CEO Todd Thibodeaux urged attendees to rethink their hiring processes to be more inclusive of women and minorities. The IT industry lags way behind the rest of America's workforce in terms of diverse hiring, so much so that another $400 billion in revenue could be generated simply by changing hiring practices and dumping old stereotypes.

Thibodeaux laid out a five-step plan that includes correcting unconscious biases, prioritizing diversity, partnering with diversity groups, making the workplace more inclusive and becoming a mentor to connect with a wider audience.

Technology Vendor Fair

This event draws more suppliers each year. More than 150 of them packed the Technology Vendor Fair inside the JW Marriott over the course of three days. Partners were able to catch up on the latest products and services, and learn how to sign up with particular providers.

Airline Pilot
Duo Security

Ann Arbor, Michigan-based Duo Security made news at the show by partnering with VMware to address the influx of unmanaged devices accessing corporate apps. The "trusted access" provider released its Trusted Endpoints feature for mobile devices, building on the launch of Duo Beyond earlier this year. Partnering with VMware and integrating with Workspace One, the virtualization giant's digital workspace platform, Duo Beyond aims to help businesses identify managed and unmanaged mobile devices trying to access corporate data — simplifying the enforcement of mobile security policies.

zenefits
Intermedia

Intermedia, the cloud apps provider to SMBs, introduced two new automated marketing campaigns at ChannelCon that aim to help solution providers capitalize on the demand for ransomware protection and Microsoft Office 365. The company promises that partners can execute month-long integrated marketing campaigns in a matter of minutes, including expertly crafted emails, landing pages, social media posts and more. Furthermore, they are provided with a campaign metric dashboard to track success, and real-time alerts so they can strike while leads are hot.

DigiCert's John Merrill
PlanetOne Communications

Master agent PlanetOne Communications made its ChannelCon debut, proving that the event now extends beyond traditional IT providers.

"There is a lot of change and opportunity in and around the LAN and the WAN, and PlanetOne is eager to help our agents and MSPs make the most of both,” said Jonathan Hartman (pictured above with Kristen Cunningham, director of solution sales for southern California), vice president of sales.

Evolve IP's Gary Coben
Scott Belsky

Scott Belsky, CEO and founder of Behance, the world's largest online platform of creative professionals, delivered a ChannelCon keynote, focusing on how businesses should get organized and harness the forces of community to grow and prosper. Belsky and the Behance team have found a series of best practices common across some of the world’s most productive creative people and teams. He's also the author of the national bestselling book “Making Ideas Happen.” Adobe acquired Behance in 2012, but Belsky remains VP of product.

Microsoft's Alyssa Fitzpatrick

Microsoft was center stage for CompTIA's executive interview series, part of the ChannelCon agenda on Aug. 1. Alyssa Fitzpatrick, general manager, worldwide channel sales for the Redmond, Washington-based software giant, took on a number of topics, but notably the big surge in Azure and the opportunity for cloud partners.

Smartphone
OBT Anywhere

Back to the Technology Vendor Fair, where we caught up with longtime channel veteran Greg Plum. His latest venture is as VP of channel for Australia-based OBT Anywhere, a provider of desktop as a service, unified communications and cybersecurity. The company offers a hosted Skype for Business service with integrated enterprise voice, which Plum says "literally transforms Office 365 into a full-featured phone system."

WAN
SaaSMax

SaaSMax, the value-added distributor of SaaS technology, featured three of its newest vendor partners – FastSensor, K9ERP and Sellr – at its booth. They were available for product demos and partner meetings. That's CEO Dina Moskowitz (right) chatting it up with an attendee.

Chatbot
RapidFire Tools

RapidFire Tools, best known for its Network Detective IT assessment tools, told us that it contracted with an approved scanning vendor (ASV) to offer external PCI compliance scans as part of its Network Detective PCI compliance module. The new ASV scan aims to allow MSPs to conduct these mandatory scans for clients in-house, without the need to use a third-party scanning vendor. Pictured are RapidFire Tools' Mark Winter (left) and Ti Saunders.

Drone
Iland

No man is an island, but this company is one. Koorosh Khashayar (right) and Dante Orsini are no doubt talking about the recent of expansion of Iland's channel program, which aims to help MSPs, resellers and agents take advantage of the ever-growing cloud services opportunity. Khashayar was recently hired to lead it. Iland provides secure and compliant hosting for infrastructure (IaaS), disaster recovery and backup as a service.

DigiCert's John Merrill
Agiloft

Agiloft, which, true to its name, sells agile business software, announced at ChannelCon a trio of new platinum-level partners that will expand the reach of its services. They are Collins Technology Consulting, Saasam and Spectrum Mobility. Each achieved the highest rung on the Agiloft partnership ladder via successful channel sales and are now certified to implement Agiloft independently.

Hotel Bar at CompTIA ChannelCon 2017
Party

After an evening out dining on sausages with all the fixings and craft beer, attendees returned to the hotel bar for some serious socializing.
