VMware (VMW) has expanded its vCloud Hybrid Service to Europe, from a data center in Slough (home of the British version of The Office) to “address U.K. and E.U. compliance and data sovereignty demands,” according to the company.
This is the first in a rollout of the service planned throughout Europe, VMWare noted. By bringing the hybrid cloud to Europe, the vendor said it is demonstrating its commitment to offer a hybrid infrastructure as a service (IaaS) internationally.
“Customer response to the U.K. public beta of VMware vCloud Hybrid Service has been tremendous,” said Bill Fathers, senior vice president and general manager, Hybrid Cloud Services Business Unit at VMware, in a prepared statement. “VMware vCloud Hybrid Service solves key business issues, allowing organizations to seamlessly extend their data centers to the cloud—linking both private and public cloud together to create a truly hybrid cloud.”
VMware only recently released its vCloud Hybrid Service to its North American Channel partners. Earlier this month during the company’s Partner Exchange 2014 (PEX 2014) in San Francisco, the vendor partnered with Arrow Electronics (ARW) to distribute the service through the ArrowSphere platform. The quick launch of the service in Europe on the heels of its North American debut signals an impressive response to the hybrid cloud, which allows users to extend on-premise data centers into the cloud for increased mobility and functionality by scaling the IT infrastructure dynamically.
Among the features of the vCloud Hybrid Service data center in the United Kingdom, VMware is touting enterprise-class storage, fully redundant VM service and full network virtualization among the top advantages for European users. The hybrid service will be available to all VMware distributors and solutions providers beginning today. Distributors will also be able to sell the vCloud Hybrid Service in addition to all other licensed VMware products currently available.
