AirWatch by VMware (VMW) will partner with Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) to develop new methods for enabling a more mobile workforce, according to VMware. The virtualization giant announced the collaboration during VMworld Europe, and said the partnership will benefit customers by decreasing deployment and return on investment timelines for mobile devices in the workplace.
The partnership will give customers access to both HP’s Mobile Enterprise Services offering and AirWatch by VMware solutions, pairing AirWatch’s enterprise mobility management technology with HP’s enterprise services and support, according to the press release.
“We look forward to working together with HP to drive product innovation in core markets with a focus on security, mobile cloud and big data that enable end users to work at the speed of life across smartphones, tablets, laptops and the next generation of connected devices,” said Sanjay Poonen, executive vice president and general manager, End-User Computing at VMware, in a statement. “The addition of our end user computing solutions, VMware Workspace Suite, to the HP Mobile Enterprise offering better positions customers to take advantage of emerging technologies in the mobile-cloud era.”
The HP Managed Mobility Services packages supported by the AirWatch platform will include management essentials to help users deploy their enterprise mobile devices and application management without infrastructure or capital investment, as well as trusted app access for secure access and single-sign on capabilities. The bundle is expected to give customers more options for managing their mobile devices with the addition of on-demand cloud delivery to HP’s managed cloud and on-premises solutions, according to VMware.
“This partnership is about getting in front of the rising trend of employees bringing multiple devices to the workplace and enabling a safe, secure and productive environment for our clients to access and develop information sources,” said Chris Moyer, Mobility & Workplace practice lead and chief technology officer, HP Enterprise Services. “We believe enterprise mobility is one of the most rapidly changing aspects for IT, and our collaboration with VMware will better enable customers to modernize their workforce with HP mobile solutions.”
HP recently announced the company will split its PC and printer operation from its enterprise hardware and services business, driven by rising PC sales and increased enterprise revenue. The partnership with VMware is further confirmation that the company is looking to drastically alter its corporate structure and develop a winning strategy for its mobile workforce solutions.
