VMware (VMW) is expanding its partnership with Palo Alto Networks (PANW) to bring their joint customers a new app to protect enterprise mobile devices from security threats.
The Palo Alto Networks GlobalProtect iOS VPN app combines Palo Alto’s suite of enterprise security solutions with the AirWatch by VMware enterprise mobility management platform for expanded protection for mobile workers, according to the announcement.
The app will provide protection in three key areas:
- Malware detection through Palo Alto’s Wildfire security service,
- Network protection via Palo Alto’s GlobalProtect Host Information Profile, and
- VPN and network security from Palo Alto’s Next-Generation Firewall coupled with AirWatch EMM.
“Employees love the flexibility that using their mobile devices for business provides them, but IT teams often struggle to enforce security policies without compromising usability. Integrating our Next-Generation Firewall, WildFire and GlobalProtect technologies with the AirWatch platform addresses the concerns of both parties, giving users a positive mobile experience while existing security policies are enforced,” said Lee Klarich, senior vice president of Product Management at Palo Alto Networks, in a statement.
VMware and Palo Alto Networks have been partners since last year, when the companies announced a joint software-defined data center reseller agreement along with a host of network security and network virtualization solutions, according to the announcement.
The Palo Alto Networks GlobalProtect iOS VPN app deployed by AirWatch is available now. VMware did not specify whether it plans to release the app on other mobile operating systems.
