VMware (VMW) and Brocade (BRCD) are collaborating to introduce new analytics capabilities for Fibre Channel storage area networks (SANs) supporting cloud environments running vCenter Log Insight 2.0. The partnership adds new functionality for Brocade environments in Log Insight 2.0 and expand users’ level of awareness when monitoring data from applications, virtual infrastructure and physical hardware.

According to Brocade, the new SAN Content Pack adds new functionality for Brocade environments in vCenter Log Insight 2.0 by using Fabric Vision technology to enhance the system’s machine-learning capabilities and improve its query and data collection capabilities. The addition of the SAN Content Pack allows IT admins to view the SAN’s health and behavior across all cloud environments, including physical, virtual or hybrid clouds.

“Because IT infrastructures generate massive numbers of alerts on a daily basis, understanding which ones are truly meaningful is typically a manual, painstaking, and time-consuming process that can create inefficiencies,” said Jack Rondoni, vice president, Data Center Storage and Solutions at Brocade, in a prepared statement. “Administrators can use tools like Brocade SAN Content Pack and VMware vCenter Log Insight 2.0 to effectively manage the shifting infrastructure patterns typical of modern data centers. This enables IT to fine-tune their environment via more effective root-cause analysis and visibility, enabling more efficient IT operations.”

The Brocade SAN Content Pack works by automatically delivering data to Log Insight 2.0, allowing users to see the most recent and important log data within the VMware Log Insight Manager, according to the press release. The content pack also comes with predefined dashboards, queries, alerts and fields that can be customized based on a user’s preferences. Additionally, the content pack classifies and filters SAN events to cut down on data clutter and drive faster response times while maintaining SAN fabric uptime.

VMware announced the forthcoming release of Log Insight 2.0 last week, promising to give users an improved method for maintaining and monitoring their intelligent cloud operations. The two companies have previously collaborated to develop the Brocade VCS Gateway for NSX, enabling enterprises to utilize both physical and virtual hardware architectures to transition to software-defined networking.

The Brocade SAN Content Pack is available now for download free of charge from the Log Insight Marketplace on the VMware Solutions Exchange website.
