Amulet Hotkey announced the release of its new compact high-security PC over Internet Protocol (PCoIP) zero client based on the TERA2 chipset from Teradici, the company announced this week.

The zero client solution leverages the features of its previous virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) products to give users increased security for their VMware (VMW) ready environments, according to the company. The device is available in two VMware ready variants, one with standard RJ45 network connectors and the other with modular SFP sockets for copper and fiber networks, according to the press release.

“We have architected the DXZC for the secure, virtualized desktop environment in the emerging VDI workspace,” said Viv Summerfield, managing director of Amulet Hotkey, in a statement. “As market leader in the mission-critical power-user sector for many years, it’s exciting to extend our expertise to the wider enterprise market.”

Zero clients are cloud endpoints with no CPU, operating system or local storage, used to decode PCoIP transmissions into pixels on a screen, connecting users securely to their virtual environments, according to Amulet. Many college computing centers, libraries and other public computer hubs utilize zero clients because there is little to no risk of users infecting servers with malicious applications, as well as cost savings and less legwork for IT admins.

Amulet Hotkey is known for it VDI products for the financial, defense and commercial sectors, according to the company. In July, Amulet announced it had used Dell’s OEM solutions to create customized training and simulation models for the defense industry.
