Nimsoft's remote monitoring and management (RMM) software, called Nimsoft Monitor, has expanded its ability to manage Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) data centers. Nimsoft Senior Principal Product Manager Andy Kicklighter said the extended capabilities will help Nimsoft moving toward its goal of becoming "a full modern IT infrastructure management provider for MSPs." The announcement surfaced at Cisco Live in Las Vegas, Nev.
Here are some of the Nimsoft Monitor's main enhancements, outlined through a Nimsoft press release:
1. Broadened Component Support: The Nimsoft Monitor will support Cisco's UCS C-Series Rack-Mount Servers and Cisco UCS 2100 Series Fabric Extenders.Cisco's UCS is a single platform that provides x86 computer resources with networking and storage capabilities. "UCS is already built with multi-tenancy in mind and with a really modular architecture that makes it consistent to purchase and manage. The hard part is being able to do that within the context of the SLAs and other commitments they make to customers using applications running in virtual environments on UCS – That’s where this release comes in," Kicklighter said.
2. Extended Metric Support: Nimsoft can now gather more metrics for interface cards in the blade server chassis. It supports monitoring of storage controllers, disks, Logical Unit Numbers (LUNs) and RAID batteries attached to server blades―and can now track available aggregated bandwidth by port type within fabric interconnects.
3. Easier configuration: Nimsoft Monitor now enables administrators to quickly select multiple thresholds for monitoring component states and supporting elastic Cisco UCS configurations.
Kicklighter also noted that UCS adoption is equal among enterprises and MSPs. "...we’ve also added more discovery, templating features, and best practice configurations that make it easy and fast to set up automatic monitoring and displays for these environments. That makes it a real win for MSPs. When they combine UCS monitoring with our other offerings, they can easily and quickly get monitoring up and running for Cisco UCS, get the hard data on usage of the UCS platform, and also see the details of applications and OS usage within the virtual environments that people are most often running in these environments."
Nimsoft was one of the first RMM companies to focus intensely on Cisco environments, particularly VCE -- the virtual computing environment promoted by VMware, Cisco and EMC.
