Morphlabs Raises $5.5M In Series B Funding

Morphlabs, which offers an Amazon EC2-compatible cloud platform, has completed a $5.5 million Series B round of financing. Moreover, the company announced that Satoshi Kanno will take over as Morphlabs president of Japan operations. Here’s the scoop.

The round of funding saw new investor Frontera Group, LLC join leading funder Global Gateway Investment Group and existing investors CSK Venture Capital Co. Ltd. and AO Capital Partners Ltd. Morphlabs’ press release credits the investor interest to growing traction with service providers and enterprises in the USA and Japan - hence the appointment of Kanno to be in charge of the Japanese market.

This year has been an eventful one for Morphlabs, says that same press release: the company had their official US launch in April, and later in 2010 released the Morphlabs mCloud Controller private cloud appliance .

“Today’s financing and support from our investors is key milestone for Morphlabs, and furthers our commitment to delivering the innovative platform for powering enterprise and service provider clouds,” said Winston Damarillo, CEO of Morphlabs, in a prepared statement.

If we’re hearing anything at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, it’s that service providers are starting to move to the cloud. And with this funding, Morphlabs looks to continue that momentum.
