ZyXEL Offers Up Wireless HD Video Streaming with New Kit
ZyXEL has popped on on our radar from time to time with its line of wired and wireless (and cloud!) networking products, but now the company is launching a new WirelessHD kit offering to address the needs of the growing HD streaming market. Simply plug the receiver into your TV and the transmitter into your device via HDMI, and ta da! Wireless HD. Channel implications follow the break …
According to ZyXEL , the Aerobeam WHD6215 wireless adapter works with all HDMI devices, including game consoles, computers and Blu-ray players. High-def 1080p signals can be transmitted along with full digital audio with no lags or delays, the company said. The secret ingredient is a 60Ghz millimeter transmitting wave that has enough bandwidth for transmitting HD content completely unhindered and without compression. It also ensures zero interference from any existing wireless networks.
ZyXEL isn’t the first to provide wireless HD streaming, but the company is a solid channel player and the WirelessHD kit is 100 percent available to channel partners. And that’s because this kit isn’t just useful for home consumers looking to cut some wires. The potential is there to use it to share content, give presentations and present reports. That’s an enterprise and SMB play. Hook one end up to the board-room projector or HDTV and leave the other end floating around for whomever is presenting. Since it uses HDMI, users can output from nearly any digital device as long as the appropriate HDMI adapter is available. For instance, an iPad with the HDMI out adapter will work, as well as any Android tablet with the correct mini HDMI to regular HDMI adapter.
The price tag is pretty standard for these types of devices; it’s $199, and will be available early in July. Although wiring and cables can cost roughly half that amount, consider it a $100 premium for a streamlined, flexible and adaptable service. ZyXEL also said it plans new kits and other Aerobeam units in the future, but didn’t specify exactly what that may entail.
