Xiotech Hybrid ISE Offers HDD, SSD Adaptive Support

Xiotech, which is known for its Intelligent Storage Element (ISE) storage platform, is building on its past innovations by providing a new Hybrid ISE appliance. Designed to merge the benefits of both traditional hard disks and solid state disks, Hybrid ISE has the potential to be a high-performance and high-density storage pool. Here are the details …

Xiotech’s relatively large 3U Hybrid ISE is bringing the storage community the following specs:

  • Multi-core CPUs

  • Multi-drive groups of 2.5 inch SAS HDD and SSDs that can provide 14.4TB of usable capacity

  • Expandable to 8 GB RAM

  • Special active and passive recovery

  • Five-year hardware warranty for SSD storage systems

  • Profile application I/O patterns to predict performance needs to eliminate data ‘storm patterns’

Xiotech sees the hybrid solution as an ideal trade-off between safety (since SSDs are pricey and can be prone to failure) and density issues (since SSDs have not caught up in size with traditional hard disk sizes). The Hybrid ISE with Xiotech’s “Continuous Adaptive Data Placement” can appropriate data automatically, utilizing SSDs and HDDs as needed for best performance without having to micromanage.
