WaveMaker: Mac OS X Meets Cloud Development

Numerous VARs tell us they’re developing cloud strategies for customer applications. What we hadn’t heard of before, however, is a cloud development environment for Apple Mac OS X — but that’s just what WaveMaker has released. Here’s the scoop.

WaveMaker’s namesake software is a visual Ajax development frontend that boasts integration with the Amazon EC2 cloud, so an application, once designed, can be instantly hosted. Its feature set reads like a laundry list of enterprise application development needs, including things like RightScale integration for management and Java deployment functionality.

It’s all open-source and free; much like Twisted Storage, they only charge for extras like support, as well as role-based access controls, or access to commercial databases. WaveMaker claims over 15,000 users for its existing products.

“WaveMaker’s visual approach to web development appeals to Mac developers, making OS X the most popular platform in our community,” said Chris Keene, CEO of WaveMaker in a prepared statement.

What do you think? Is there a cloud opportunity ahead for Mac OS X developers and resellers?
