Vyatta and Carpathia Partner For Security on Demand

Cloud security buzz continues this week as Vyatta, which positions itself as an open source Cisco Systems competitor, inks a partnership with federal and enterprise specialists Carpathia Hosting to provide on-demand protection for customers of the Carpathia InstantOn cloud platform. It’s a bigger deal than it sounds — Carpathia Hosting provides complex managed hosting and cloud services to companies and agencies for whom regulatory compliance is their entire business.

In the press release, Carpathia praises Vyatta for their complete Vyatta Network OS per tenant virtual machine-based networking and security solution. In addition to firewall, VPN, and intrusion protection services, Vyatta gives Carpathia InstantOn the ability to automatically provision security as needed, hypervisor agnosticism, security from the data center to the hosted cloud, an open API, and flexible licensing and pricing.

Carpathia is apparently offering all this by way of the Vyatta Service Provider Licensing Program (VSPL), which enables cloud service providers, VARs, and MSPs to deploy Vyatta security solutions to their customers.

The bigger story is the rise of regulatory compliance solutions in the cloud. Security is still the biggest roadblock to cloud adoption, and even the IaaS providers are partnering up to help customers jump over it.
