Bill Fathers is leaving VMware after three years with the company.

Bill Fathers, the executive vice president who lead VMware’s vCloud Air project, is leaving the company, according to a report by Fortune on Thursday.
A memo to staff from VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger disclosed the news, which also named Fathers’ replacement – in the form of two co-general managers. Allwyn Sequeira and Laura Ortman will replace Fathers. Both executives have been with the company since 2008, Fortune said.
Fathers joined VMware in March 2013 to lead the Cloud Services Business Unit as executive president and general manager. Prior to VMware Fathers served as president of Savvis.
The report notes that Fathers exit should not be a huge surprise since Gelsinger said in its most recent earnings call said that vCloud Air’s focus would be narrowed; a spokesperson told Fortune that vCloud Air will now target “specific disaster recovery and data center extension jobs.”
Described as a “IaaS hybrid cloud” service, vCloud Air was launched three years ago, and was rebranded from vCloud Hybrid Service at its VMworld 2014 event.
