UK: Intermedia Launches Hosted Exchange 2010
Intermedia, which specializes in hosted Exchange solutions for VARs and their end-customers, has launched hosted Exchange 2010 service in the United Kingdom. Here’s some background. Plus, some chatter about where Intermedia may be heading next.
Headquartered in New York, Intermedia also has offices in Sunnyvale, Calif.; London, U.K.; and St. Petersburg, Russia.
The global effort seems to be working: Intermedia says it tripled its UK customer base in 2009, with a product line that includes hosted Microsoft Exchange, Office Communications Server 2007, SharePoint 3.0, and support for BlackBerry, iPhone, Droid and other smartphones, according to a prepared statement.
The European Landscape
Multiple software companies are making MSP- and SaaS-centric moves across Europe. Some are gaining traction while others have imploded.
Microsoft’s own BPOS (Business Productivity Online Suite), which includes Exchange Online, is now available across Europe and 28 countries across the globe. And the EuroCloud organization is promoting cloud and SaaS services across Europe.
We’re also tracking Acer-Gateway; the PC maker has been working with Level Platforms to promote managed services across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
Keep a close eye on your PSA or RMM provider, and chances are they have growing offices or growing user groups across Europe.
Still, some efforts haven’t blossomed. Intel, for one, abandoned an effort to build a managed services cloud across Europe after localization issues became too burdensome.
Intermedia’s Next Move
Meanwhile, Intermedia continues to move into new directions. Already one of the best-known providers of hosted Exchange to VARs, Intermedia is pushing deeper into unified communications (UC).
Poke around and you’ll pick up some indications that Intermedia will partner up and make an even more aggressive UC effort this year. And yes, the initiative will be designed with VARs and managed services in mind.
