TriActive Launches SaaS Systems Management Suite

System management solution provider TriActive, active in the healthcare and academic verticals since 1997, is coming out of a 3-year-long absence from the spotlight with the launch of their new SaaS Systems Management Suite (SMS) for MSPs. I had the chance to see a demo, and I came away intrigued. Here’s why.

TriActive VP of Marketing Ron Halversen, formerly of WordPerfect and Novell, among others, says that when the economy started to tank back in 2007, their usual customer base started drying up. That’s when he says he was brought on board by the ailing company to figure out a new approach. Halversen put TriActive into what he calls “stealth mode,” built up their partner program, and called for tweaks to the solution.

Now, TriActive SMS appears to give MSPs a platform for all kinds of Web-based help desk services, including patch management, software deployment, remote desktop, diagnostic tools, and a knowledge base. Since it’s cloud-based, you can log in from anywhere and see your dashboard.

While I watched, Halversen chose a networked machine at random, drilled down to see what software had been installed and uninstalled recently, saw that one program was out-of-date, and deployed a patch, all with only a few clicks.

The last feature I want to single out here is what they call “True-up savings,” where you can inventory licenses for, say, Microsoft Office, and then see if you’re using all of them. If you’re not, you can “save thousands, if not millions” by not renewing the extras, Halversen says.

The TriActive SMS solution starts at $1/node/month for MSPs and is entirely brandable and transparent to users. They even offer deal registration to their channel partners. Basically, Halversen wants service providers to know that they’re focused on the channel – and in my humble opinion, it shows.
