Trend Micro unveiled the latest version of it server security platform, Deep Security 9, at VMworld 2012 in San Francisco, offering customers the ability to extend server, application and data security across their physical, virtual and cloud environments.

According to Trend Micro, the virtualization and cloud features were designed with enterprises in mind, but the company also noted a strong opportunity for managed services providers. Although support for virtual environments isn’t new to the product, Trend Micro has provided additional performance and ease-of-use to the agentless architecture in Version 9 — an architecture designed specifically for VMware (NYSE: VMW) environments.

“More and more data centers are becoming virtualized or moving to a public or hybrid cloud,” said Steve Quane, Trend Micro’s chief product officer, in a prepared statement. “Deep Security offers VMware customers intrusion prevention, integrity monitoring and virtual patching on an agentless basis in addition to agentless AV. It allows customers to securely extend their data center and private cloud workloads to public and hybrid clouds, so they can recognize even greater agility and cost savings.”

Part of what makes this important for the cloud and for cloud providers is new features around integration with VMware vCloud Director and Amazon Web Services (NASDAQ: AMZN). A unified management console also aims to make it easier to extend organizatons’ security across vCloud- and AWS-based public cloud workloads through a single pane of glass.

Like many other products announced at San Francisco’s Moscone Center this week, Deep Security 9 also supports the newly announced vCloud Suite 5.1, as well as vCloud Networking and Security. Deep Security 9’s integration with VMware products isn’t anything new, as this marks the fourth generation of Trend Micro products to be integrated with VMware.

Deep Security 9 isn’t quite ready to hit the market, but customers and Trend Micro’s network of channel partners can expect to see the server security platform in winter before the year is out.
