TIBCO Launches 2.0 Version of ActiveSpaces Big Data Software

Infrastructure software provider TIBCO (NASDAQ: TIBX) has released the 2.0 version of its ActiveSpaces software, a “distributed peer-to-peer in-memory data grid” that allows clients to reduce transactional costs and process larger data streams — a.k.a., Big Data — in real time. As TIBCO puts it, ActiveSpaces permits users to carry out in-depth analysis of “data at rest” along with “data in motion,” i.e., real-time data streams and traditional data sources.

The company defines the software’s base technology as “shared nothing persistence,” which does not require data storage on a central server. This helps clients avoid the “typical bottleneck” confronting data access and to add servers quickly to scale up compute power for faster analysis.

TIBCO also has its eye on the potential Big Data return on investment. According to Wikibon, an open source advisory website, the Big Data market by 2017 will be worth $53 billion.

“We’re excited to help our customers and other big-data pioneers break through the bottlenecks of traditional database and storage technology,” said Matt Quinn, CTO of TIBCO, in a prepared statement. “With TIBCO ActiveSpaces 2.0, 10 servers are 10 times faster than one server — whether you’re storing the data in memory or on disk. This makes ActiveSpaces a critical component in high velocity and high-volume analysis and addresses our customers’ big ask of Big Data: How can I make decisions based on real-time data streams with all the benefits of history?”
