Telefónica Connects With Equinix Cloud Exchange
Through the agreement, Telefónica will offer its enterprise customers the ability to use dedicated connectivity to touch multiple cloud services through the Equinix Cloud Exchange. The Equinix interconnect solution has been growing steadily since launched earlier this year. Since it went live in April, the Equinix solution has attracted a variety of infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and other cloud service providers, including Google, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft.
With the new agreement with Telefónica, the Equinix Cloud Exchange offering will connect to Telefónica Cloud.
“As enterprises’ IT needs change, it’s important for providers, such as Telefónica, to provide access to a broad choice of cloud service providers that best meet their evolving needs,” said Chris Sharp, vice president of cloud innovation at Equinix, in a prepared statement. “By offering connectivity on the Equinix Cloud Exchange, Telefónica is enabling its enterprise customers multiple options for connectivity to the cloud in an easy-to-manage and secure environment.”
It could be an important agreement for Telefónica’s customers, but also for Equinix and the growing number of cloud services providers it connects to using its dedicated connections. The partnership provides Equinix with a stronger presence in Europe, as Telefónica serves Spain and other European nations, but it also adds a larger global presence, as Telefónica plays in markets around the world.
“By connecting Telefónica IP MPLS services to Equinix’s Cloud Exchange, we are expanding our own cloud services offer, giving our customers the ability to choose from the best combination of cloud infrastructure, platform and software service providers to ensure they can put the best possible hybrid cloud solution in place to meet their individual business needs,” said Joe Luis Gamo, CEO of the multinationals business unit at Telefónica Global Solutions, in a prepared statement.
