Symform Launches Partner Program, Adds Unlimited Cloud Storage

Symform, the cloud storage “commune” that undersells the competition with its share-and-share-alike model, has two announcements for the channel: First, Symform is introducing a new pricing tier that offers unlimited cloud storage starting at $10 per month or $100 per year. Second, Symform has launched a reseller partner program, offering cloud service providers Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers.

The new pricing is simple: It’s $10 per month or $100 per year for up to three users to store as much in the cloud as they desire. That’s 500 GB, 1 TB, 10 TB — Symform says that it doesn’t matter. It’s another $3 per month or $30 per year for every user above those first three, according to the press release.

As a refresher, Symform announced flat-fee pricing for unlimited server backup back in July 2011, but this new announcement extends the effort to endpoints. Symform claims it can undersell rivals (Symform noted Carbonite Pro, its next-cheapest competitor, charges $1,044/year to store a single terabyte). To offer aggressive pricing, Symform uses a decentralized approach to cloud storage that sees data chopped up and sent all over the cloud for later reconstitution on demand.

As for the new Symform Partner Program, the cloud storage provider has outlined specific benefits for partners. The program’s website includes a full comparison chart for Silver, Gold and Platinum partners. Predictably, higher-tiered cloud service provider partners get better access to support, higher margins and priority on lead distribution. Platinum partners also get a seat on Symform’s partner advisory board.

We’ll be watching to see if Symform’s partner program gains critical mass with VARs, MSPs and CSPs.
