Survey: Most Cloud Users Want Hybrid File Sharing Solutions
Most users of online file sharing (OFS) services are extremely interested in hybrid solutions, according to a new survey from the Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG). Cloud-based file sync and share service Egnyte said those results are reflected in its own customers' deployment preferences.
According to the study, more than two-thirds of current users of cloud-based OFS services say they are extremely interested in hybrid solutions, citing flexibility and control over data as the top factor driving interest.
Egnyte's data revealed similar results, with 7 out of 10 Egnyte customers moving to its hybrid model within the first 90 days of deployment. And more than two-thirds of all customer inquiries and pilots call for hybrid as a part of their file-sharing deployment model.
In addition, the company said more than three-fourths of Egnyte's partners named hybrid as one of their top three solution focus areas this year.
ESG Senior Analyst Terri McClure said in a statement that cloud-only file sharing is no longer the only option, adding that hybrid solutions have been gaining momentum.
"IT groups realize that they have alternatives that may better meet their need for balancing control, security and leverage of existing assets," she said.
"Simply put, it's a matter of providing customers with a choice," said Egnyte Worldwide Field Operations VP Steve Erbst. "The cloud is great for some data and use cases, but others, especially data sets that need to stay behind the firewall, need to be addressed and accessed differently."
