Sungard Availability Services (Sungard AS) has sold its Assurance Business Continuity Management Planning (BCMP) software business to private equity investor Resurgens Technology Partners.

The business will be a standalone entity and will retain the name Assurance Software. Assurance helps businesses develop an end-to-end business continuity program, including business impact analysis, incident management, disaster recovery planning and reporting, and emergency notification management.

Assurance’s Gary Cohen

Gary Cohen, Assurance’s vice president of product strategy and development, tells Channel Partners that all 650-plus Sungard AS’ software business customers have a seamless transition to Assurance. Customers will be notified and receive communications from their existing customer success manager, he said.

“The acquisition provides new channel opportunities,” he said. “Our partner team will be expanding relationships in the areas of business-continuity consulting, security technology and disaster-recovery technology. There is a reseller agreement with Sungard AS, and we will continue to work with them on opportunities.”

Assurance has a technology partner community that will expand as part of this opportunity, Cohen said.

“We are looking forward to deepening the relationship with existing partners, such as OnSolve and Dell Boomi,” he said.

The Assurance continuity management offering has been replatformed to become a multitenant SaaS solution. The new SaaS platform, combined with dozens of additional product updates over the last several years, allows users to better execute disaster-recovery plans and communicate among team members, the company said.

“As a standalone entity, coupled with our focus and expertise in developing software businesses, Assurance will further establish itself as the go-to solution for lowering risk, improving resilience and better managing business continuity,” said Adi Filipovic, Resurgens’ principal and co-founder.

“Resurgens’ software specialty is the right fit to help the Assurance team build on its successes to date,” said Andrew Stern, Sungard AS’ CEO. “While we’ve continued to support the team’s investments to better serve our software customers, the focus of our investments is on partnering with our customers to transform their production and recovery IT environments for business resiliency.”
