VMworld 2012 doesn’t start until next week, but the VMware-related announcements have been coming fast and furious. Sumo Logic is the latest vendor to announce a product tied into VMware just before the big show.

The log management and analytics company has released Sumo Logic for VMware, a product designed for collecting, managing and analyzing machine data from VMware (NYSE: VMW) infrastructure. Using the product, enterprises can search, visualize and analyze all VMware logs in real time so they can monitor and detect events within VMware virtual environments.

Sumo Logic designed the product as a petabyte-scale cloud platform and is targeting on-premise log management products as its main competitors. This announcement follows two months after Sumo Logic announced a free log management service built on Amazon Web Services.

The company is positioning its LogReduce technology as the key feature of Sumo Logic for VMware. LogReduce, according to the company, “uses real-time forensics to reduce millions of log lines into a manageable set of patterns that enable IT teams to quickly identify and resolve operational issues.” That seems to be at the core of how Sumo Logic can handle a petabyte of information — which the company says is a first in the industry.
