Former Symantec rivals are wasting no time in offering Symantec customers migration deals.

As security vendor Symantec (SYMC) pulls itself out of the cloud-based backup and recovery services business, former rivals are pouncing on the opportunity to migrate Symantec customers.

The security vendor told partners this week that partners should think about leveraging Symantec’s on-premise Backup Exec software, while the company focuses its “development resources on other cloud-based services that can offer greater features to meet key customer needs.”

As a response, the following cloud-based backup software developers are offering Symantec customers, partners or both discounts on migration services:

  • Asigra sent Symantec partners an open letter, outlining the benefits they will receive by becoming an Asigra partner and extending a limited offering for new partners. “Symantec Partners who join the Asigra Partner ecosystem before March 31, 2014 will receive a one time special offer of 60 percent off list pricing,” the company said in its blog post.

  • Axcient CEO Justin Moore provided his thoughts in a blog post last week, stating that “longtime Symantec customers may not be surprised by the announcement.” To collect the company’s fair share of Symantec customers, it will be offering a migration program for BackupExec.cloud customers that includes a dedicated Backup Exec migration specialist; a free setup and implementation professional services package; and free service during migration period.

  • Carbonite (CARB) is offering current Backup Exec.cloud customers who switch to Carbonite the equivalent of their Backup Exec.cloud subscription for free, according to a blog post. In addition to the offering for current Backup Exec.cloud customers, resellers will receive an additional 10 percent discount on any codes applied to current Backup Exec.cloud customers. Resellers can redeem this offer by contacting their account manager, or by emailing the Carbonite team at resellers”at”carbonite.com.

  • Zetta.net said it’s providing Symantec Backup Exec.Cloud customers with the option to apply the unused balance of their service — up to 6 months — to Zetta’s cloud backup and DR service — free of charge — in addition to a 20 percent discount on an annual cloud backup contract.

  • BUMI (Backup My Info!) is pushing out its Symantec Trade-Up program to provide Backup Exec.cloud customers with a complimentary backup and recovery consultation, a migration plan with best practices recommendations and two months of its BUMI There cloud backup service for free. To redeem the Symantec Trade-Up offer, the company said, participants must verify their status as a former Backup Exec.cloud customer and are required to sign a 12-month agreement.

  • KeepVault isn’t wasting its time reaching out to Symantec customers. The online backup software company is offering Backup Exec.cloud customers a way to save 37 percent with a two-year plan with KeepVault.

  • GFI Max is offering a three-part promotion to anyone switching to GFI MAX Backup (standalone) or Managed Online Backup (integrated into GFI MAX RemoteManagement) services. Customers who switch will receive free service for the remaining life of their BackupExec.Cloud subscription, free seed-loading service (including courier charges) via removable disk for volumes of 500GB and above, and 50 percent price promotion for customers transferring 1TB or more of data into the service.

  • EVault noted in a blog post that its promotion includes 12 months EVault cloud backup and DR — includes 3 months free; back up to Microsoft Azure cloud, EVault Cloud or one of our strategic Service Providers’ clouds; and options for integrated endpoint protection, onsite data protection, and guaranteed disaster recovery.

  • AVG Technologies said it’s providing AVG CloudCare Online Backup cloud-based small business protection platform free to existing Backup Exec.cloud customers. The terms and conditions of the offer can be found on the software vendor’s website.

Symantec reported last week that it would be discontinuing its Backup Exec.cloud service in January, but noted that it would “continue to invest in its core backup and recovery offerings, including on-premise Symantec Backup Exec and NetBackup software and appliances, as well as innovative cloud-based storage, sharing and synchronization platforms.”
