Skyfence, a Redwood Shores, California-based company that specializes in cloud application automation and visibility solutions, has released a free version of its Cloud Discovery tool.

Cloud Discovery is designed to eliminate “IT blind spots,” according to Skyfence. The software-as-a-service (SaaS) app discovery tool “uncovers cloud apps by inspecting data in user access logs across the enterprise.”

Skyfence Cloud Discovery offers global and regional views of app discovery, risk scoring and usage levels and can help enterprises control “shadow IT” threats.

“We wanted to provide customers with a fast, easy way to assess their exposure to shadow IT cloud apps. Visibility is the first step in the process. This tool allows them to do that,” Skyfence Vice President of Marketing Frank Cabri told Talkin’ Cloud. “For our channel partners and managed service providers (MSPs), this is a great tool for selling cloud security services. They can quickly show customers cloud app usage that they are unaware of and the risks each app poses to the business.”

3 things you need to know about Cloud Discovery

How can enterprises leverage Cloud Discovery for greater visibility into their cloud app usage and risks? Here are three things you need to know about Skyfence’s new release:

  1. The Skyfence Cloud Discovery tool can generate cloud usage reports because it allows IT and security administrators to import existing log files from various firewall, security information and event management (SIEM) and Web proxy solutions.

  2. The tool enables enterprises to better understand app usage, activities and traffic volumes.

  3. The tool can be downloaded and run locally on any Mac or Windows system.

“Most companies recognize that cloud apps pose a potential security threat but lack the tools to assess the depth and breadth of the problem,” Skyfence CEO Ofer Hendler said in a prepared statement. “While many vendors are charging high fees for visibility into SaaS apps, the Skyfence Cloud Discovery free tool makes it easy and affordable to quickly, securely and accurately discover cloud app usage and risks across an organization.”

Skyfence’s free Cloud Discovery tool is available for download here.
