SEPATON Speeds Up Private Cloud Storage
Data protection specialist SEPATON has launched version 6.0 of its storage platform, boosting their new S2100-ES2 Series 1910/2910 appliances to speeds that they claim are ten times that of their closest competitors. SEPATON’s billing the new platform as being a perfect enabler for private clouds thanks to the high storage speed, efficient bandwidth usage, and secure erasure.
First things first: SEPATON definitely works with the channel, but the company is mainly looking at VARs who look for big deals. SEPATON Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing Mike Thompson put their average partner deal value at between $500,000 and $1 million. But Thompson also says the new product gives an “unfair advantage” when competing for deals of that magnitude.
Talking to SEPATON, it becomes obvious that their pride and joy is the up to 1500 MB/sec/node speed and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager deduplication capabilities that the $257.5 thousand (base price) S2100-ES2 rackable appliances bring. But they’re also touting higher reliability, easier scale-out, and better analytics and monitoring.
Yes, it’s a data center appliance – and in an age of off-site cloud storage, some cloud service providers may see SEPATON’s offerings as an anachronism. But for enterprises who want the cloud but aren’t ready for a public solution, SEPATON may have cooked up something worth a look.
