Scality and Gladinet Partner For Cloud Storage

Scality

Cloud storage system vendor Scality and cloud gateway developer Gladinet have partnered to provide SMBs and geographically dispersed enterprises alike with an end-to-end storage solution designed to “unleash mass adoption.” Basically, Scality is hoping to grant their storage-as-a-service provider customers with a way to give businesses the full benefits of cloud storage without needing to use the “disruptive” access protocols that the company says has hindered the technology’s market growth.

While the Scality RING offering provides the object-based, scalable storage, Gladinet’s technology handles backup and data management for the customer. In the press release, Scality touts how the partnership with Gladinet enhances their — and by extension their service provider customers’ — privacy, performance, and disaster recovery.

The end result, they say, is the low TCO and ease-of-use of a scalable private storage cloud that’s accessible by all employees, no matter where they are or what branch of the organization they work in.

Moreover, the press release indicates that there’s an alternate, turnkey use-case for the two solutions: Gladinet running in a public cloud combined with Scality RING running on-premises can make any set of traditional data centers into their own private cloud storage provider.

When Scality completed a $7 million round of funding earlier in March, they promised to invest some of it in enhancing their offering for cloud service providers. And it looks like they’re delivering.

But TalkinCloud has to ask: if Scality and Gladinet think cloud storage has been held back in the SMB space, what market have they been watching?
