ScaleXtreme Releases Self Service Cloud Tool
A new — and free — self service tool from ScaleXtreme might take some of the burden off the shoulders of IT departments and channel partners when it comes to provisioning cloud servers and services. The open source software enables organizations to build and manage internal cloud dashboards and self-service portals for developers and end users.
The company claims the new open source tool makes self-provisioning of public cloud instances as simple as using a vending machine. Available for free download on the ScaleXtreme website, the tool could prove invaluable to IT administrators that are spending too much time spinning up new cloud instances for end users and developers rather than working on more strategic IT projects.
At the same time, self-provisioning of cloud servers could have a dramatic impact on the number of rogue IT cloud servers that have found their way into businesses of all sizes in recent years. When IT red tape is too much to handle, many users have found it easier to take a credit card and subscribe to cloud services for their departments’ needs, but doing so can put data at risk and break compliance regulations. Making it easier for end users to self-provision approved cloud instances might cut down on the number of rogue outbreaks.
According to ScaleXtreme, self-provisioning also can drive down costs and improve end user satisfaction. At the very least, there should be smaller wait times in getting needed cloud resources for projects and applications.
Unsurprisingly, the development of the new self-service cloud portal came about because of customer requests. Many businesses are facing the problem of increasingly complex hybrid cloud environments without stopping to think how they’re going to manage and control all of the applications and data they’re responsible for. Tools such as the new one from ScaleXtreme holds the promise of getting the cloud environment under greater control.
