Savvis Launches Symphony Cloud Storage in Limited Release

Do you heart that? It's the sound of another cloud storage service coming online. In this case, it's Savvis Symphony Cloud Storage, which cloud infrastructure and IT hosting provider Savvis says combines global accessibility and unlimited capacity with the reliability and security businesses today require.

The new cloud storage service, which is now available in a limited release, can be accessed over the public Internet, but existing customers that already use the CenturyLink (Savvis' parent company) private network will not have to pay data transfer fees when downloading data. It sounds like a good deal for existing CenturyLink customers. Savvis customers that currently host or colocate in a cloud storage-enabled data center will likewise not have to pay data transfer fees to move data between their cloud storage and infrastructure.

Savvis Symphony Cloud Storage was built on the EMC Atmos platform and is compatible with the EMC Atmos API framework, so one of the key benefits being touted by Savvis is the ability for customers to integrate with other solutions already using EMC technologies. Other features include:

  • Simple replication that provides businesses with flexibility in choosing where their data is stored. A global namespace model allows end-users to analyze the data collectively without needing to know the storage location for each piece of data.

  • Access to data across Savvis' multiple global data centers from any device.

  • Pay-per-use storage with unlimited capacity.

  • Flexible scaling.

  • Penalty-backed SLAs and 24/7 support.

Additionally, Savvis announced a partner ecosystem for Symphony that features solutions from the likes of Riverbed, Oxygen Cloud and Panzura.

Savvis Symphony Cloud Storage is in limited availability to only a few Savvis customers at this time, but Savvis plans to launch the service into general availability in the new year.
