SAP Launches DR Solution for Business Suite on Sybase ASE

SAP AG (SAP) launched a new disaster recovery functionality for customers running SAP Business Suite applications on SAP Sybase Adapative Server Enterprise (SAP Sybase ASE) to enable transaction log replication through data replication software.

The company said its goal for this new capability is to provide disaster recovery in a way that helps customers avoid the risks and costs of downtime during system disruptions, without disruption or impact to performance for Business Suite production environments.

SAP Global Database Solutions Vice President and General Manager Peter Thawley said in his prepared remarks that SAP Business Suite customers already enjoy the performance of SAP Sybase ASE, but “with SAP Sybase Replication Server, those customers now have the ability to easily create an integrated, highly available environment that allows them to continue to operate at full speed while mission-critical business data is synchronized continuously to a warm standby, enabling a near zero downtime environment, should the production system fail for any reason.”

SAP Sybase Replication Server includes a log-based transactional replication technology that creates a secondary site or multiple secondary sites at any distance from the primary site, while keeping the data protected. It enables users to distribute and synchronize data across geographies to multiple systems, provide real-time availability of application data for reporting servers and data warehouses and migrate data to new databases, hardware or OS platforms.

This capability is available immediately for both new and existing SAP Sybase ASE Runtime customers at no additional cost.

The company announced the general availability of the SAP Business Suite applications powered by SAP HANA at its Sapphire Now event in May. Then last week at the SAP Americas Partner Leadership Summit, SAP made it clear to partners they should focus on innovation for future successes.
