SaaS Help Desk Zendesk Grows 300% In 2010, Gets New COO
Zendesk had a good year in 2010. The SaaS help desk provider apparently saw year-over-year revenue growth of 300% and a tripled customer base — at least, according to a momentum statement Zendesk released this week. And to help them manage this huge growth, Zendesk has brought on MySQL and Scale Venture Partners veteran Zack Urlocker as chief operating officer.
Buzzworthy companies like Groupon, OpenTable, and Zappos Insights, as well as industry titans like Adobe and Sony Music, all helped Zendesk push its total customer count above 5,000, according to that momentum statement. It’s little wonder that Zendesk was also able to add $19 million in VC funding to its coffers with those numbers.
As for their new COO, Urlocker was most recently Executive in Residence at Scale Venture Partners, and Executive VP of Products at MySQL under former CEO Marten Mickos. Much like Mickos, currently CEO of Eucalyptus Systems, Urlocker now finds himself working in the cloud world.
The position’s draw for Urlocker? The strength of Zendesk’s solution. To wit, Urlocker had this to say in a prepared statement:
“Zendesk is wildly popular with customers because it’s so easy to use. Zendesk is a cloud-based solution that enables companies to deliver outstanding customer service, something that is increasingly important in today’s economy. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to the next phase of the company’s growth.”
Talkin’ Cloud sister blog MSPmentor spent a lot of time in 2010 reporting on Zendesk’s technological advances, and it seems like their R&D has been rewarded.
