Red Hat (RHT) Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is now available in the AWS GovCloud (US) region of Amazon (AMZN) Web Services (AWS) as the open source company attempts to appeal to government cloud computing customers.

By making RHEL available in the AWS GovCloud, government agencies can now deploy workloads on the AWS cloud and benefit from the use of identical technology as RHEL deployments in their on-premises data centers.

RHEL has already been widely deployed in U.S. government agencies and has completed 15 Common Criteria (CC) certifications across four hardware platforms, Red Hat said.

"Government agencies need the ability to quickly access computing resources that clouds like AWS GovCloud provide, while still deploying applications on Red Hat’s secure platform, RHEL," Red Hat Public Sector Vice President and General Manager Paul Smith said in a prepared statement. "On AWS GovCloud, agencies can use RHEL on demand, paying for only what they use, when they need it.

He added: "As agencies determine their cloud strategies, the ability to use RHEL for both on-premises deployments and in the cloud is game-changing."
