Quest Migrates Gmail, Exchange E-Mail to Office 365 Cloud

Cloud services specialist Quest Software is now offering a SaaS solution designed to help customers move e-mail from Microsoft Exchange and Google Gmail into the Microsoft Office 365 cloud. The so-called Quest OnDemand Migration for Email solution is designed for SMBs, enterprises with many branch locations and educational institutions moving to new platforms.

OnDemand is Quest’s line of SaaS applications, which previously encompassed utilities including Windows log management and Active Directory recovery. But this new product represents Quest’s first foray into cloud e-mail tools, and requires no on-premises component or maintenance, according to the press release.

Here’s Quest’s own fact sheet on the tool’s benefit for administrators:

  • Multi-threaded migration to support multiple, simultaneous migrations;

  • The flexibility to migrate email, calendars and folders in a phased approach;

  • Data filtering to clean up unwanted data and complete the migration faster by filtering email data and calendar events by age, excluding source email folders by name , or changing the destination folder name;

  • Mailbox authentication by authorized administrators who can migrate user mailboxes without knowing or resetting user passwords

And for end users, according to Quest the tool is easy to set up, offers “simplified self-migration,” contextual help and automatic logging of which users in a team have undergone the migration process.

While Quest OnDemand Migration for Email’s pricing changes depending on the number of licenses needed, the press release indicates it’s generally about $10 per mailbox migrated.

It’s no surprise the company is offering Gmail to Office 365 migration, but not the other way: Quest was one of the very first service providers to sign on with Microsoft Office 365, and it’s only been growing its investment in Redmond technology.
