Poll Results: Microsoft to Overtake Amazon in IaaS
Even though Amazon Web Services (AWS) is holding the number one spot in the infrastructure as a service (IaaS) market, its competitors aren’t sitting idly.
You may remember a recent Gartner Magic Quadrant report claiming that Microsoft (MSFT) is growing its share of the IaaS market with Microsoft Azure, the tech giants’s cloud-based infrastructure platform.
According to our (unscientific) poll, the IT research firm might be onto something. More than half of our readers (52 percent to be exact) believe Microsoft will overtake Amazon in the IaaS space.
POLL: Will you invest more in SaaS, PaaS or IaaS in 2014?
While Microsoft is riding on the coattails of Amazon, Google (GOOG)’s cloud revenue is also growing, as is the revenue of a variety of other IaaS and PaaS providers.
More recently, Cowen and Company analyst John Blackledge said AWS is likely to see annual revenue of $19 billion by 2019, but it will also nearly double its market share.
