The good news for Microsoft (MSFT) is the majority of our readers are not looking for an Office 365 alternative. But there’s bad news: the numbers are close — a little too close.

Talkin Cloud’s (unscientific) poll from last week revealed that 53 percent of our readers are not looking for an alternative to Office 365, a subscription-based online office suite built around the Microsoft Office platform.

While the news may seem like a victory for Microsoft (and it is to an extent), the remaining 47 percent of those polled are still looking for office suite alternatives — for one reason or another.

POLL: Is it becoming easier or harder to sell cloud-based solutions and products to customers?

If you’re one of the ones who voted in the affirmative (meaning you’re willing to take a chance on another office suite), here are several you may want to take a look at:

  • Google Apps for Business — The battle between Google and Microsoft is ongoing, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Google is one of Microsoft’s top competitors in the space. One could go as far as saying that Google is Microsoft’s main rival in the office suite space.

  • Zoho Office Suite — Zoho CEO Sridhar Vemb has been known for calling Microsoft out for having a monopoly on the office suite market. His company’s office suite includes word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases and more.

  • HyperOffice — HyperOffice is a Rockville, Maryland-based company that focuses its efforts on providing a collaborative platform to SMBs.

Also in the running, SherWeb, a Sherbrooke, Quebec-based cloud services provider (CSP), recently announced a new cloud-based business email and collaboration suite alternative to Office 365.
