Pentaho Adds Mobile and Real Time Analysis Features
If Pentaho, the open source business analytics vendor, has its way, the worlds of Big Data, mobile computing and real time information analysis are set to merge. At least, that’s what the latest enhancements to the company’s analytics platform promise. Here are the details, and what they say about emerging trends in the Big Data channel.
- Instaview, the first instant and interactive application for any Big Data. This new application dramatically reduces the time and complexity required for data analysts to discover, visualize and explore large volumes of diverse data in Hadoop, MongoDB, Cassandra, and HBase. Instaview broadens Big Data access to data analysts, removes the need for separate Big Data visualization tools and simplifies Big Data delivery and access management for IT.
- Pentaho Mobile, the only mobile BI with the unique capability to create new ad hoc analysis from the iPad. Pentaho Mobile brings business users the full capabilities of the Pentaho Business Analytics platform on the iPad, including instant and interactive analysis, rich visualization dashboards, reports and the power to create new analysis on the go. Pentaho’s mobile user experience and new personalization capabilities help decision makers better navigate and interact with their information wherever they are.
Both moves make sense. Reporting and analysis tools for Big Data are only as effective as they are accessible. These new features will help to ensure that information on data stores is available to users in real time and wherever they are.
The new features also highlight the integration opportunities that exist for Big Data vendors to extend their products beyond the traditional reach of the Big Data channel. Pentaho will now have a presence in the world of mobile computing — on the iPad, at least, although support for other devices may presumably be forthcoming — which will in turn open new doors for the company going forward.
Instaview and Pentaho Mobile are available starting today in the Pentaho Business Analytics platform. This latest Pentaho news follows several other significant announcements in recent months, including a partnership with Cisco to deliver a complete hardware and software business analytics solution, as well as a partnership with Dell to help deliver — through Dell’s Project Sputnik initiative — a notebook computer for developers powered by Ubuntu.
