Peer 1 Launches Enterprise-Grade Public Cloud Infrastructure
Peer 1 Hosting took the opportunity at Cloud Connect to introduce Mission Critical Cloud, which it’s billing as an enterprise-grade public cloud IaaS offering. With built-in security, disaster recovery and cloud management features, Peer 1 is aiming to automate the day-to-day IT activities of its customers.
The new IaaS offering is powered by Tier 3, which provides cloud services that are virtualized using VMware (NYSE: VMW) technology and have been designed to provide secure, high-performance and reliable public cloud computing environments. The Tier 3 technology is providing Mission Critical Cloud with redundancy and enterprise-class security. Additionally, customers will have the ability to choose their geographic location to ensure they comply to data governance regulations. Out of the starting gate, virtual servers can be deployed in Canada, the United Kingdom and Germany. Peer 1 plans to roll out the ability to deploy virtual servers in the United States in May using Tier 3’s federated data centers in Chicago, New York and Seattle.
According to Robert Miggins, senior vice president of Business Development at Peer 1, many enterprises are in the market for a “more powerful, yet less complex” public cloud solution, and that’s where Mission Critical Cloud is meant to fit into the market. As is typical for cloud services, it’s priced in a pay-as-you-go model and is meant to enable customers to shift their CapEx IT spending to OpEx.
“Businesses want to accelerate their adoption of the public cloud, but many providers don’t deliver a complete solution that elegantly addresses common enterprise requirements,” said Mark Cravotta, senior vice president of Tier 3, in a prepared statement.
A cloud orchestration feature dubbed Blueprints is included that is intended to automate the deployment of complex environments to make it even easier—and more cost-effective—for customers to deploy clouds. According to Peer 1, it’s possible to provision servers in a matter of minutes. Additionally, customers will be able to generate detailed reports so they can “charge back” cloud usage across various departments.
