ParElastic Virtualization Engine Scales Relational Databases

ParElastic is launching its Elastic Database Virtualization Engine, a flexible software solution that enables elastic database capacity in relational database servers such as MySQL.

The database company released the beta version of the technology, which permits users to unite several database servers and use them as one virtual database, creating a workload capacity exceeding the capabilities of a single database server.

According to the company, customers need only provision the resources they require at a given time. The Database Virtualization Engine is “optimized for operational workloads” that are “characterized by short duration queries with frequent updates, and highly variable application demands on the database tier.” Due to its scalability, the new ParElastic solution also helps customers avoid investment in new infrastructure or new database management systems.

“To be successful in the cloud, all tiers of the application need to be able to scale out or shrink based on the demands placed on it,” said Amrith Kumar, founder and CTO of ParElastic, in a prepared statement. “Today the web/presentation and application tiers can easily scale on demand, but relational databases remain a monolithic impediment. At ParElastic, we make the relational database tier truly elastic and able to adapt dynamically to the application demands. We do this by bringing multiple industry standard relational database servers (such as) MySQL together to operate as one.”

ParElastic Database Virtualization Engine is currently available to qualified beta customers and design partners. Those interested in participating the beta program can click here to apply.
