Some 352 Oracle employees in California, including software and application developers, and others, will lose their jobs in May, according to filings with the California Employment Development Department.

Oracle reportedly laid off hundreds of employees last week as it continues shifting resources from old business to cloud computing. The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices show 97 employees at Oracle’s Santa Clara facility and 255 employees in Redwood City are impacted by the layoffs.

Almost all of the workers are set to depart the company on May 21, while one employee will remain on the job until September. The layoffs will be permanent.

The Santa Clara facility is not closing as part of this reduction in force, Oracle said in its filing. Instead, Oracle is “reevaluating its product focus and skill set gaps, and for these reasons, has decided to lay off certain employees in the product development organization.”

The Redwood City facility also isn’t closing, and the layoffs are taking place for the same reason there, according to Oracle.

Of the 97 jobs being eliminated in Santa Clara, 70 are software developers. At least 86 of the layoffs in Redwood City also are software developers. Software-development managers also are being eliminated, as well as positions in marketing and communications, program and project management, and others.

Oracle has about 140,000 employees globally. The Register reports that the job cuts range from 500 to 14,000. In addition to California, layoffs are taking place in Seattle, New Hampshire, Mexico and India, it said.

Oracle spokesperson Deborah Hellinger would only say, “as our cloud business grows, we will continually balance our resources and restructure our development group to help ensure we have the right people delivering the best cloud products to our customers around the world.”
