OpenStack Summit: Metacloud Launches Private Cloud Solution
At the OpenStack Summit in San Diego, Metacloud launched a new fully managed private cloud solutions tailored for enterprises. The company, which is focused on developing OpenStack-based private clouds, is calling its new private cloud solution the “first fully managed OpenStack-based private cloud solution with enterprise capabilities for availability, management and scale.”
It’s always good to take “firsts” with a grain of salt, but Metacloud seems intent on building private clouds that will provide enterprises with the reliability and predictability they need in a private cloud. According to the company, its new solution has already found its way into and had success with a handful of customers, including those in the Fortune 500. The only customer the company noted in its announcement was Tableau Software, a business intelligence software vendor focused on providing fast business analytics.
Metacloud is one of those companies that has been in a sort of stealth mode. It saved its official entry into the market for the OpenStack Summit, when it was able to announce an investment from Storm Ventures to move the company forward in its plans to penetrate the private cloud computing market.
“We founded Metacloud with the firm belief that cloud is not a buzzword, nor should it be hard to deploy and manage. Businesses can’t wait for months or years for results and cloud implementations shouldn’t take that long,” said Steve Curry, CEO of Metacloud, in a prepared statement.
Of course, even though the cloud is still in its infancy, it’s easy to argue it has already moved beyond the early days, although it’s also easy to argue the point that cloud computing infrastructures are still far from as easy as cloud integrators and cloud builders would like them to be. The cloud is not yet an out-of-the-box deployment, although market trends indicate it may be headed in that direction.
What’s in store for those who choose to work with Metacloud’s OpenStack-based private cloud solution? The company noted a few key benefits of its private cloud flavor:
- The solution is optimized to provide automated failover of critical OpenStack support services.
- It’s integrated with a rapid deployment framework for the automated build and scale of compute, cloud management and storage services.
- For high performance, the route to object storage services has been optimized.
- An OpenStack networking model conserves data center VLANs and maintains secure tenant separation.
- Included is the Tenant Invite System, an Active Directory enhancement that easily delegates tenant management across the enterprise.
