New Funding: Appirio Eyes Cloud Technology and Expansion

Appirio, an enterprise-level cloud services provider, announced it has obtained $60 million in Series D funding in a round led by global investor General Atlantic (GA). Also contributing were investors Sequoia Capital and GGV Capital. With this investment Appirio plans to expand its global consulting practice, develop its cloud technology and enhance its crowdsourcing platform CloudSpokes.

In 2011 Appirio launched a major push into Europe by acquiring Saaspoint, a U.K.-based cloud services provider. It also released the Cloud Enablement Suite, a set of apps supporting enterprise cloud development, and the crowdsourcing platform CloudSpokes, which currently has more than 35,000 developers. And by the way, the company is quite pleased that annual revenue increased by more than 80 percent, calling 2011 a “banner year.”

“Appirio is defining what a next-generation technology services provider will be in the era dominated by cloud solutions,” Gary M. Reiner, GA partner and former General Electric CIO, said in a prepared statement. “The company’s unique combination of technology and crowdsourcing — along with their cloud focus and experienced team – have the potential to completely disrupt the $793 billion worldwide Global Systems Integrator market.”

Reiner, who headed this funding round for Appirio along with Brett Rochkind, will join Appirio’s board of directors.

Appirio does have a partner program. Interested? Click here to learn more.
