A new IaaS platform from NaviSite is intended to make it easier for organizations to more effectively leverage cloud-based applications. The newly launched NaviCloud Director is a VMware vCloud Director 5.1-powered IaaS offering that was designed to provide cloud-based businesses with a more flexible, customizable, enterprise-class, production-oriented hybrid cloud environment.

That’s a mouthful, for sure, but the idea is that NaviCloud Director is meant to be a design platform for cloud-native applications that also gives its users access to VMware APIs and a developer community. In addition to being able to develop cloud-native apps, the new IaaS offering also makes it possible for organizations to customize their network architecture so they map specifically to their technology philosophy, according to NaviSite.

For the more advanced user, NaviCloud Director gives them the ability to access the native vCloud Director user interface for additional user flexibility. Some of the other features include:

NaviSite has had some serious backing the last couple of years, ever since it was acquired by Time Warner Cable. At the time, NaviSite was focused on delivering SaaS and managed applications from Oracle (ORCL) and Lotus, but the company has been expanding its cloud products.
