Microsoft Office Web Apps Cloud Suite Goes Global
Microsoft Office Web Apps, Redmond’s answer to the popular Google Apps cloud productivity suite, has launched in 150 more countries, including Mexico, Israel, and India. That puts Microsoft in a position to have Office Web Apps available available in every country on the planet next month — a mere nine months after launch.
The official Microsoft blog entry indicates that the only thing between Office Web Apps and true global availability are the remaining Central and South American markets like Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Argentina.
Office Web Apps’ newfound boost in around-the-world availability could well portend a speedy global rollout of the Microsoft Office 365 suite. As you’ll recall, Office 365 is the forthcoming successor to Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS), which includes Exchange Online and SharePoint Online (among other SaaS offerings).
In the meantime for Microsoft resellers: Office Web Apps is available to anyone with a copy of Microsoft Office 2010 (or just a Facebook account), and prides itself on its integration with the legacy version of the suite.
