Microsoft Names Windows Azure Cloud Partners of the Year
Microsoft has released the full list of Partner of the Year Award winners, with the Windows Azure Platform category getting split into two divisions for the first time: New Zealand-based GreenButton won Windows Azure Platform ISV Partner of the Year, while Windows Azure Platform SI Partner of the Year went to Logica Business Consulting, which hails from France.
GreenButton and Logica will both be publicly honored at the impending Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC), which will be held July 10-14 in Las Vegas. Microsoft will also be honoring finalists in both categories, including ISVs SOFT ONE TECHNOLOGIES S.A. (based in Greece) and T-Systems Multimedia Solutions (Germany) and systems integrators Cumulux and INFOSYS, both based in the United States, according to the press release.
Judging from the winners’ websites, it looks as though Microsoft took notice of GreenButton’s science and engineering-focused Windows Azure cloud computing offerings. Logica, meanwhile, is a full-service integrator and IT services firm that appears to be moving prominent European businesses to the cloud by way of Azure.
It’s unsurprising that Microsoft chose to break up the category into these two separate awards: Previously, the award was the far more generic “ISV Cloud Partner of the Year,” but the Windows Azure team has been going out of its way to promote more ISVs adopting the platform-as-a-service offering. It behooves Microsoft to recognize the most successful of its Windows Azure developer converts if it wants to keep that momentum going, and part of that is including the product name on the award.
The VAR Guy himself has more perspective on the rest of the list of winners, and I have word that he’s going to be on the ground personally at WPC 2011 later this summer, so keep watching for updates.
