Massive Service Provider Backs Cisco, EMC and VMware Cloud Push
The growing cloud and data center relationship between Cisco, EMC and VMware just got another big vote of confidence. Specifically, Orange Business Services is working with the three technology giants on a “global business alliance” to meet customers’ cloud computing needs. The move signals another big win for Vblock within the service provider community. Here’s why.
The four companies are working together under the moniker “Flexible 4 Business,” which will deliver end-to-end cloud services for enterprises. Predictably, Orange Business Services will promote a range of Cisco, EMC and VMware offerings — including the so-called Vblock initiative, which has been winning momentum in public and private data centers.
According to a press release, Flexible 4 Business will focus on:
- Private cloud: Customized solutions based on Vblock Infrastructure Packages that combine virtualization, networking, computing, storage, security, and management technologies from Cisco, EMC and VMware. The solutions will be hosted in Orange datacenters, subparties datacenters or in customers datacenters, the companies say.
- Back-up services: Secure hosted and managed back-up delivered as-a-service.
- Software-as-a-Service (SaaS): Security services such as anti-virus and URL filtering solutions as-a-service.
- Unified communications services: The offerings will be hosted and managed from Orange Business Services datacenters.
We’ll be watching to see if Orange attempts to extend those enterprise cloud services do to midsize and small business customers, where most smaller MSPs make their livings.
Meanwhile, more and more midsize and large service providers seem to be embracing the Vblock data center offerings from Cisco, EMC and VMware. Earlier this week, Nimsoft introduced Vblock monitoring tools that several well-known service providers are leveraging.
